WHO WE ARE:

Our staff includes pastoral counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and psychotherapists. Standards of clinical expertise and continuing professional education are set by appropriate professional associations. The Northeast Counseling Center, Inc. has consulting psychiatrists and others available for evaluations.

Originally established in 1970 by sponsoring congregations, the Northeast Counseling Center, Inc. was created with the goal of making pastoral counseling and psychotherapy available to all members of the community. Representatives of these sponsoring groups form the Center’s Advisory Committee, providing community leadership, office space, and financial support as an extension of their ministry.

The Northeast Counseling Center, Inc. has more than 40 sponsoring congregations, including Baptist, Congregational, Episcopal, Jewish, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Reformed, and Unitarian Universalist faith groups in 32 local communities. This mutually supportive relationship reinforces our mission.

WHO WE SERVE

Individuals searching for self-understanding, relief from depression and anxiety, or problems with living a productive life. Clients work with staff counselors and psychotherapists to clarify areas of strength and weakness for the purpose of bringing about satisfying constructive change.

Couples seeking to strengthen their relationship. Couple therapists help identify past, present, and future hopes for the relationship, paying particular attention to each partner’s independent needs. Couples facing separation are helped through the inevitable strain of “coming apart.”

Families seeking to improve communication or work through pressing problems. Counselors trained in family interaction can help change negative patterns so families can learn skills of negotiation, fair fighting, problem solving, and compromise. This assistance can help the family become a safer, more supportive environment for all of its members.

Children and Adolescents facing issues of growing up, as well as relating to parents and peers. Children may work individually with counselors in play therapy, while adolescents have the option of meeting with a counselor individually or in small groups. Families are asked to become involved in work with young people.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

The Northeast Counseling Center, Inc. offers Programs and Workshops to congregations, schools, and other organizations. We consult with each group to design presentations suited to a group’s specific needs. Recent topics have included Effective Communications, Adolescent Suicide Prevention, Spiritual Resources in Times of Crisis, and Surviving Divorce.
